Inspects fire extinguisher and reports to Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed. Makes sure all cleaning solution is locked up except during use and used only with your supervision. Assures that all beds in the cabin have at least 30 inches between the sides of beds; there should be adequate space to provide freedom of movement and allow for exit in an emergency. Stays in the cabin with your kids at night. You may leave your cabin for a legitimate reason, but only if you have another staff member of age, who does not have camper responsibility at the time, to cover for you. Moves with campers to ALL classes and activities and remain with them unless otherwise noted. Both counselors must accompany campers back to the cabin and prepare for bedtime. No camper or campers should be left alone in the cabin without proper staff supervision. One counselor must be in the room with the campers for 30-45 minutes after the lights are out to ensure campers have settled for the night. Keeps the door to your room open at night so that you can maintain order. Maintains an incident report book on all your campers for each camp session. Turn in the incident report book to your Head Counselor at the conclusion of each camp session and retrieve a new one at the beginning of each camp session. Notify Head Counselor immediately of any serious situation. You may be asked to teach a class according to your experiences or expertise or to assist with one. At the end of each camp session, wipe down all mattresses, sinks, showers, and toilets and mop floors with bleach water to control germs. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner. Perform as necessary ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with a camper, or leading in Christian songs, etc. Exhibits control of the campers and, when needed, display proper discipline techniques. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activities; ensures the campers’ safety in utilizing the same. Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money, and supplies necessary for camp programs. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). Assists in leading campers during waterfront, nature, outdoor, arts & crafts, or other activities. Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities (including free time and evenings); reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards. Coordinates the weekly schedule of events with Camp Head Counselors and ensures that it is conducive to a pleasant experience for the campers. Supervises program specialists; instructs and trains program specialists in the proper methods and procedures for conducting sessions; monitors session plans for compliance with established program policies and procedures. Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates camp programs based on changing needs of campers; develops programs or assists leaders in developing programs to target the enrolled campers. Counsels staff and campers in conflict resolution; keeps the Camp Director abreast of conflicts affecting daily operations. Perform as necessary ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with a camper, or leading in Christian songs, etc. Develops, implements, trains, and enforces program and safety policies and procedures; prepares and updates procedure manual; leads campers and staff in emergency situations. Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition. Mops kitchen daily following evening meal; mop dish room following each meal. Keeps outside area trash clean. Hose off the back dock at the end of each day. After each meal empty the trash cans and reline. Wash out garbage cans with water weekly. Collects and checks all USDA sheets for each camper at registration. Keeps USDA records at meals. Completes proper USDA forms for food deliveries. Keeps all USDA forms filed and in proper order for each camping period. Meets with USDA inspector. Plans, directs, facilitates, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day medical needs of camp staff and campers; reviews medical information and stays abreast of techniques and medical information needed to maintain a healthy environment; offers medical advice to the staff and campers as needed; dispenses medications to staff and campers as needed according to physician’s prescription. Supervises the activities of the nursing staff and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Provides or ensures orientation is provided that includes standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies and contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting. Develops, plans, delivers, and assesses the effectiveness of health-related instruction and training at the camp, (i.e. C.P.R., first aid, etc.). Trains the counselors in regard to their responsibilities in noting and reporting illness, injury, or unsafe practices and conditions that might contribute to a camper or staff accidents. Supervises the activities of the nursing staff and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures. Ensures the health and safety of all campers and staff by providing a safe environment as determined by the ACA Health and Wellness Accreditation standards. Assists at registration by collecting Health History Forms and medication and be responsible for all drugs, medicines, and kits brought to camp by campers. Oversees the registration process of checking campers upon arrival at camp for lice and other evidence of illness, injury, or communicable disease. Reviews all Health History Forms (Camper and Staff) within 24 hours of their arrival (verify at camp that everyone at camp has a Health History Form), and identify any camper or staff who has a health or medical situation that needs to be discussed with the Camp Director. For each cabin, list for the counselors, all camper medications or medical problems that they need to be aware of; For campers who come to camp with medicines – dispense all medication and treatments in accordance with directions on the medicine bottles, and keep accurate records of such treatments on camper medical form. Facilitates the initial set-up of the Health Center; ensures the Health Center area and supplies are clean and free from debris at all times. Identifies potential hazards and responds appropriately and in a timely manner. All medications are to be locked up at all times. Maintains accountability and inventory of all medical supplies; orders or purchases needed supplies as approved. Maintains a daily log of all transactions and staff and camper visitations to the Health Center; completes a statistical report on health services rendered and provides to appropriate staff on a predetermined schedule. Reports all admissions to the DCCC/Associate Camp Director. If asked to contact the parent/guardian of a camper, document this call in the communication log. Compiles a listing of doctors and hospitals in the immediate area and corresponding driving directions to the facility to be used in an urgent time of need. Evaluates campers and staff and determine appropriate treatment based on symptoms. Follows up with sick campers and staff to determine if an emergency doctor's visit is necessary. Assists in organizing transportation to doctor and/or hospital as needed. Fill out the necessary insurance claim form. Orders meal trays for sick campers and staff as needed. Be on call for all camp medical emergencies. Analyzes the sanitary conditions of the camp on a predetermined schedule; reports any deviances to the DCCC/Associate Camp Director.   • Stays in cabin with your kids at night. You may leave your cabin for a legitimate reason, but only if you have another staff member of age, who does not have camper responsibility at the time, to cover for you.
  • Moves with campers to ALL classes and activities and remain with them unless otherwise noted.
  • Both counselors must accompany campers back to cabin and prepare for bedtime.
  • No camper or campers should be left alone in the cabin without proper staff supervision.
  • One counselor must be in the room with the campers for 30-45 minutes after lights are out to ensure campers have settled for the night.
  • Keeps door to your room open at night so that you can maintain order.
  • Maintains an incident report book on all your campers for each camp session. Turn in the incident report book to your Head Counselor at the conclusion of each camp session and retrieve a new one at the beginning of each camp session. Notify Head Counselor immediately of any serious situation.
  • You may be asked to teach a class according to your experiences or expertise or to assist with one.
  • At the end of each camp session, wipe down all mattresses, sinks, showers, toilets and mop floors with bleach water to control germs.
